Installation Day: What Actually Happens
Most clients see a finished Bedouin tent and assume installation is a half-day job. In reality, a well-executed installation on a Dubai property — villa garden, rooftop, hotel courtyard, or event venue — involves careful site preparation, precision assembly, and a final tensioning pass that can take a full day for a standard 6 × 9 m structure. Here is what to expect when Arab Muzalat's team arrives.
Before the Crew Arrives: Site Readiness
The installation team needs a clear, accessible area. Before they arrive at your Dubai location, ensure:
- The installation footprint is free of garden furniture, potted plants, and loose objects.
- Vehicle access is confirmed — the installation van carries poles up to 4 m long.
- An electricity outlet is nearby for power tools and lighting runs.
- Any underground irrigation or drainage plans are on hand — required before any stake goes into the ground.
Site Survey: The First 30 Minutes
The crew begins with a site survey. In Dubai, this is particularly important due to the variety of ground conditions — compressed fill on reclaimed Palm Jumeirah developments, soft sandy soil in Mirdif and Arabian Ranches villas, or hard paved terraces in Downtown and Business Bay properties. The survey determines:
- Stake type: screw-auger for sand, concrete collar for pavement, surface anchors for tiled terraces.
- Pole base method: direct ground set, weighted base, or drilled socket.
- Orientation for natural shade coverage at the time of day the space is used most.
- Any drainage gradient that requires the tent edge positioned to shed water away from the building.
The Build: Poles Up First, Fabric Second
Contrary to what might seem logical, the fabric does not go up first. The crew sets all poles — centre poles, then side poles — and rigs the ridge rope before laying the tent panels. This approach lets them control the panel drape and minimise stress on fabric seams during the raise. For larger structures (12 m and above), common at event venues across Dubai, additional hands and a staged lift sequence keep loads balanced throughout the raise.
Tensioning: The Step Most Rushed by Others
Proper tensioning is what separates a Bedouin tent that looks right from one that will still look right in 18 months. The Arab Muzalat team works the guy ropes systematically — front to back, not one side at a time — and checks the ridge level before final tightening. Over-tensioning one side creates the "banana ridge" sag that plagues cheap installations across Dubai. Under-tensioning the perimeter allows flutter, which stresses the weave and accelerates wear in UAE summer heat.
Finishing Details: Lighting, Fabric Walls, Flooring Interface
Once the main structure is tensioned, the crew installs specified extras:
- LED string lights or spotlights through integrated pole channels.
- Fabric side walls or Sadu-weave curtains along the perimeter.
- Ground edge treatment — weighted skirting or anchored base rails where the tent meets a wooden deck, grass, or paved surface.
Handover and Care Instructions
At handover, the team demonstrates the tie-off points for removable wall panels, shows the ridge-rope adjustment knots for fine-tuning after seasonal stretching, and advises on fabric care. In Dubai's dusty climate, a light brush-down every two weeks during spring and summer Shamal season keeps the canopy looking fresh. Woven goat-hair panels can be washed with a mild soap solution and air dried — a full rewash is typically needed once per season in Dubai, twice for properties closer to the Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah desert fringe.
